Farmhouse style in a small space
Hello loves!
Are you looking for ways to decorate your space in the farmhouse style; but don’t have a ton of space to incorporate those design elements? No worries! I will share what I did in my new space at my sister’s. It’s a long story of the 2020 saga. Long story short - I don’t have a ton of space; but I wanted to make things cozy and homey with some farmhouse style. I have some links of what I used on Amazon. I do make a small commission from purchases; but it is the easiest way to get the same look. Here’s five quick tips of what I did to get the farmhouse look in my bedroom.
Declutter, declutter, declutter. The first thing I always notice in the farmhouse decor inspiration pictures is how clean and clear everything looks. When I was looking at my space once everything was moved in, there was a lot of clutter and it was starting to stress me out. I would recommend really starting to go through your things and have a goal to get rid of 5 things every day if you are really limited on space. I’m still a work in progress on this; but it does make a difference on your space feeling very airy.

Get lots of storage - farmhouse style. I needed to find a way to get things up and out of the way especially with blankets and W’s books; but wanted something more than just plastic containers. Wasn’t going to that look. I looked at what I already had that I could use - I had some antique furniture with some storage space and then I made a trip to my local Home Goods to see what they had. Baskets are going to be your best friend for getting things moved/hidden out of the way. I picked up some jute rope baskets and a couple of metal & wood baskets (https://amzn.to/31SKNrd) from Rae Dunn.
Quilts everywhere! I have several handmade quilts from my grandma on my bed. I prefer having quilts since they are super cozy and I just love the colors and designs. If you don’t have someone who makes quilts as gifts, you can always order one that you like online. I also have a grey buffalo plaid quilt set that I ordered from Amazon (https://amzn.to/3muMWkS) that is super soft and cozy.
Light colored rug. I’m a big believer that you need a rug to help anchor a space, especially a bedroom. I’m pretty fond of persian style rugs and I really like the light blue one that I got a year ago. Since I have dogs and a toddler, I try to keep the cost of rugs under $200 in case it gets ruined. You know crap happens and sometimes it ruins a rug lol.
Galvanized metal anything. I like the look of galvanized metal. It reminds me of different livestock equipment I’ve had over the years and it is a current farmhouse trend. For my room, I have a galvanized metal bin that I’ve been using to wrangle some books in. I usually have books everywhere and the metal is sturdy enough to handle the weight of those books and magazines.
